No. 18 Hawaii opens up with sweep of Idaho

Junior hitter Nikki Taylor put down 12 kills as No. 18 Hawaii opened its volleyball season with a 25-18, 25-23, 25-19 victory over Idaho Friday night in the Chevron Invitational at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Senior middle Olivia Magill and senior hitter Tai Manu-Olevao each had eight kills and sophomore hitter Kalei Greeley seven for the Rainbow Wahine (1-0, 1-0 CI). It was the seventh consecutive year that Hawaii won its opener.

Hawaii faces Wichita State (1-0, 1-0) in Saturday’s second match. The Shockers swept Oregon State in Friday’s opener, 25-23, 26-24, 25-19.

Senior hitter Katelyn Peterson led the Vandals (0-1, 0-1) with 11 kills. Libero Jenna Ellis had 11 digs.
