ER doctors oppose big Halloween music festival

LOS ANGELES » Drug-related deaths linked to music festivals have prompted some Los Angeles emergency room doctors to oppose a planned Halloween event at the Los Angeles County fairgrounds.
County supervisors are permitting a two-day electronic music festival event that could draw 80,000 people.
Some doctors tell the Los Angeles Times that such festivities swamp emergency rooms with young people who’ve overdosed.
Two college students died of suspected overdoses after attending a summer festival at the fairgrounds on Aug. 1. There have been nine drug-related deaths among Southern California concertgoers since 2006.
The doctors say there shouldn’t be huge music festivals on county-owned land.
A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Fair Association says it will work with the promoter of the Halloween event to ensure the safety of the guests.
