Patrol officer spots suspected copper thief

A patrol officer arrested a 34-year-old homeless man Monday morning for allegedly stealing copper wiring from light poles on the Likelike Highway. 

The officer saw the suspect with a cutting tool bending over a pole, police said. The officer arrested the suspect at 10:25 a.m. The exact location of the arrest was not listed on the arrest log. 

Copper theft is class c felony, which carries a maximum jail term of five years and a $10,000 fine.
