Waianae’s Max Holloway has agreed in principle to face Jeremy Stephens in a featherweight bout at UFC 194 on Dec. 12 in Las Vegas, multiple sources confirmed Thursday.

News of the fight was first reported by Foxsports.com.

Holloway (14-3, 10-3) has won seven straight fights and is ranked fifth by the UFC at 145 pounds. Stephens (24-11, 11-10) is ranked No. 8 but has lost two of his last three fights.

The main event of UFC 194 is a unification title bout at 145 pounds between champion Jose Aldo and interim titleholder Conor McGregor.

A day earlier, No. 2-ranked Frankie Edgar fights No. 3 Chad Mendes, meaning five of the top six fighters in the 145-pound weight class will be in action within a 24-hour period.

Stephens’ last two losses were by decision to Charles Oliveira and Cub Swanson, whom Holloway has defeated in his last two fights.

Holloway will serve as the honorary captain for the University of Hawaii football team in Thursday night’s season opener against Colorado at Aloha Stadium.
