A 67-year-old Lihue man faces up to 30 years in prison after he was found guilty of failing to register as a sex offender.

A Kauai Circuit Court jury Thursday found Rogelio Lahip Ganotisi guilty of three counts of failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements. His sentencing is set for Dec. 17.

In February 2013, Ganotisi was released from prison after serving a 20-year sentence for three counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of kidnapping, two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening and family abuse. The offenses occurred in July and August 1991 when the victim was 13 and 14.

Though advised numerous times by the Kauai Community Correctional Center, prosecutor’s office and the Kauai Police Department of his requirement to register as a sex offender, Ganotisi refused to do so, claiming he was innocent, according to the prosecutor’s office.
