Police investigate Whole Foods guard in beating of shopper in California

OAKLAND, Calif. » California police are investigating allegations that a Whole Foods guard beat and choked a shopper until the person was unconscious.

The Oakland Tribune reported Friday that Whole Foods has suspended the Oakland guard while it also investigates.

The police investigation began when customer Zoe Marks posted images of the injured shopper Thursday on Facebook.

Marks told the Tribune that she watched a verbal dispute between a cashier and the customer turn violent when the security guard arrived.

Marks said the guard slammed the shopper against a concrete pillar outside the store and placed him in a chokehold unto he passed out.

Paramedics took the man to a hospital. Police said his condition was stable.

Police didn’t release the names of those involved.
