Spear stolen from Kamehameha statue in Hilo

Hawaii County Police are asking for the public’s help in recovering the top section of  the spear taken from the Kamehameha statue in Wailoa State Park in Hilo over the weekend.

Police said the bronze spear tip is brown, with some oxidation, with a gold tip, about six feet in length and about 1.25 inches in diameter.

The spear was last seen Saturday and reported missing Sunday afternoon.

Police ask anyone with information about this incident, the identity of the suspects or the whereabouts of the stolen spear  to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311 or Officer Matthew Lewis at (808) 961-2213.

Tipsters can also calll the island-wide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
