Hawaii island firefighters and the Coast Guard are searching for a third day Saturday for a missing spear fisherman off Hawaii island.

Loren “Jamie” Salis, 55, who was wearing a black wetsuit, was last seen about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday near the end of Old Coast Guard Road in North Kohala.

Two friends who had been diving with Salis reported him missing to the Coast Guard at 2:40 a.m. Thursday.

Firefighters and the Coast Guard began searching Thursday, and firefighters recovered a submerged dive light and a fishing spear that morning. Firefighters said no other signs of Salis have been found since.

The Coast Guard said on Friday that an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and the Cutter Ahi crew had searched 1,303 square miles.

The Hawaii County Fire Department was searching by rescue boat and divers on Saturday. Firefighters said Saturday would be the last day of searching for the department.
