Mayor Kirk Caldwell is in South Carolina this week to attend a Mayors’ Institute on City Design meeting.

Caldwell will present concepts from the city’s draft Blaisdell Center Master Plan and get feedback from the MICD resource team of planners and architects.

While in Charleston, Caldwell visited the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church to pay condolences and offer hookupu on behalf of the people of Honolulu. He will place a ti leaf lei in the church as a symbol of healing and unending aloha.

Three months ago, Dylann Roof allegedly opened fire during a Bible study at the church on June 17, killing nine people.

Caldwell will return Sept. 28.
