A 37-year-old Maui Community Correctional Center inmate, who was supposed to begin parole in two weeks, ran away from a corrections officer Wednesday who was checking on him while he was on a work furlough pass.

LeRoy Wright, who was completing a prison term for first-degree burglary, left the Maui Community Correctional Center to go to work at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.

A Maui corrections officer went to Wright’s place of employment to check on him. Wright fled when he saw the corrections officer.

Wright was tentatively approved for parole to begin on Oct. 14. He now faces additional prison time for escape after he he is recaptured.

Wright was serving time in community custody, which is the lowest custody level. He is 6 feet tall, weighs 177 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. He also has tattoos on his neck.
