A large north-northwest swell approaching the islands has prompted weather officials to issue a high surf advisory for all islands.

The advisory runs through 6 a.m. Sunday for the north- and east-facing shores of all islands. Forecasters expect waves along north-facing shores to reach 10 to 15 feet this evening, increasing to 15 to 20 feet Saturday. Waves along the east-facing shores are expected to reach 4 to 8 feet this evening, increasing to 6 to 10 feet Saturday.

Beachgoers are advised to heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and expect strong breaking waves, shore break and longshore and rip currents.
