Police arrested a 49-year-old homeless man today after a 21-year-old Honolulu Community College student said the suspect hit her on the back of the head and fled Monday.

Honolulu Community College security personnel assisted police in the arrest, according to a college statement.

The arrest occurred just before 8:30 a.m. on Dillingham Boulevard in front of the college.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault — a misdemeanor. Bail was set at $1,000.

The female student identified her attacker, the college said.

The student said she was attacked near a bus stop on Dillingham Boulevard in front of the college at 6:40 a.m. Monday while walking to class.

The student was not injured and attended classes.
