Tulsi Gabbard and Abraham Williams share a love of the outdoors and ocean and they were on surfboards when he made his marriage proposal.

U.S. Rep.Tulsi Gabbard injured her nose in a surfing accident Thursday morning at a surf spot area in Waikiki known as “Number Threes.”

The 34-year-old Hawaii congresswoman responded to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser in an email Thursday afternoon, confirming she had sustained an injury and was bloodied in accident in which she was struck by another surfer’s board. However, she said, her nose wasn’t broken.

Gabbard enjoys surfing in the mornings on Oahu’s South Shore when she is home away from her Congressional work in Washington, D.C.
