The Hawaii State Association of Electrical Workers announced today that it fully supports Florida-based NextEra Energy in its planned purchase of Hawaiian Electric Industries.

The association comprises all three Hawaii-based locals of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union: IBEW Local 1186, IBEW Local 1357 and IBEW Local 1260, which last week announced its support of the transaction.

The union locals have more than 7,000 active members.

Last week’s announcement was made after NextEra Hawaii agreed to honor the current IBEW Local 1260 collective bargaining contract, and recognized the unions the exclusive agent for all bargaining unit employees. Also in the agreement, NextEra affirmed it would not lay off bargaining unit members for two years after its purchase of HEI closes.
