Police identify man found dead after Maui house fire

Maui police have identified the 94-year-old Wailuku man whose body was found following a fire in a Wailuku home as Shiro Sam Hironaka.

The fire at Naniluna Place was reported at 4:35 p.m. Thursday.

A woman living upstairs was able to escape the flames and told police that a man in the downstairs unit may not have made it out.

Flames prevented police from from entering the unit.

After the fire was extinguished, Hironaka’s body was found.

Damage was estimated at $630,000 to the residence and contents.

The cause of death is pending autopsy results
