Hawaii senior Ashleigh Karaitiana scored 19 points to lead the Rainbow Wahine basketball team to a 74-60 win over CSU Bakersfield to cap the opening day of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Shootout today at the Stan Sheriff Center.
UH (4-1) saw a 16-point lead cut to four early in the fourth quarter, but the Wahine responded with a 15-3 run to regain control.
Karaitiana bounced back after being shut out in last Sunday’s loss to Washington State by shooting 8-for-16 from the field. Forward Megan Huff finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds off the bench and guard Briana Harris added 12 points.
CSUB’s Erika Williams led the Roadrunners with a game-high 20 points.
The three-day tournament continues Saturday with the Rainbow Wahine facing No. 16 Arizona State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Arizona State (1-2) nearly knocked off No. 2 South Carolina in the tournament opener, but A’ja Wilson made two free throws with 0.6 seconds left and the Gamecocks (5-0) escaped with a 60-58 win.
