    Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell has hired KITV reporter Andrew Pereira for his communications team.

Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell has hired KITV reporter Andrew Pereira for his communications team.

Pereira, who has worked in TV news since joining KHNL-TV as an intern in 1995, will begin his new job as information officer tomorrow according to a statement from the mayor’s office.

Pereira joined KHON-TV as a reporter in 2004, working there there until 2012, after which he was hired at KITV.

“In my opinion, Andrew has always been one of the top investigative journalists in Honolulu, and I’ve admired his writing, his drive to get a good story, and his dedication to accuracy and fairness,” Caldwell said, in a statement. “I look forward to working with him as part of the administration.”

Pereira has won journalism awards, as well as accolades for his reporting from business organizations.
