Woman arrested for alleged theft in Pupukea

Police arrested a 19-year-old woman on suspicion of second-degree theft Monday night at a Pupukea supermarket.

Police said the woman reportedly took several envelopes containing cash at 11:07 p.m. from a 43-year-old man’s handbag left in a shopping cart.

Witnesses saw the theft and followed the woman, police said.

Police were called and officers found the woman hiding in Pupukea Beach Park.

She was arrested at 11:25 p.m.

Hawaii is light on theft. This person will probably only get probation. And if this thief has already been caught in a previous incident, she will probably only get a very short time in jail. Thievery is often habitual and begins at an early age. They should be required to get treatment as a condition of release to stop the cycle.

Not so light if the theft was $300.00 or higher it is a felony and she will probably receive an open five they should make her go to drug treatment if she stops the drugs she will not steal
