Teen stunned at portrayal as possible bombing suspect in N.Y. Post

REVERE, Mass. » A teenager whose photograph appeared on the front page of the New York Post in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings says he was stunned to see himself portrayed as a potential suspect.

Salah Eddin Barhoum says he has been scared to go outside because he worries people will blame him for Monday's attack.

The 17-year-old from Morocco told The Associated Press in an interview today at his Revere home that he feels he may have come under suspicion from some because he has dark skin.

He says he went to state police to clear his name after learning he was being described as a possible suspect in the Internet.

A photo of him and another person from his running club appeared on the front of today's Post. The FBI identified two other men in photographs later in the day.

No, its not the dark skin. It's the pressure cooker shaped backpack he's wearing.

That white guy, with the hanging blue bag could also hold a pressure cooker. So what's your point? Let's see, brown guy or white guy?

Wonder why the New York Post printed the picture in their newspaper in the first place. It was questioned as false almost immediately.

Which means....Anyone seen with a pressure cooker-shaped backpack....is up to no good. So, if anybody has one now, get rid of it.

You should go back to wherever, allie, since you're clearly very unhappy here yourself. I don't know if leaving here will help, but we can all hope that it might.

Typical stoopid comment, Allie. These are the ones that completely destroy your credibility on other topics. You obviously don't like a lot about Hawaii. Does that mean that you should go back to NoDak? Just asking!

He may have been born in Morocco, but the article makes it clear that he lives in an apartment in Massachusetts. He's just an athletic American teenager, a member of a running club, who happens to have a somewhat similar skin tone to those guys we know from the 9/11 photos. Please, remember that we have our own, homegrown, Caucasian crazies -- terrorists like Timothy McVeigh (Oklahoma City) and Eric Rudolph (Atlanta Olympics). An Asian guy shot up the school at Virginia Tech. Given how many ethnicities we have here, shouldn't we be more understanding about skin color and not judging people by that?

Poor kid. I feel sorry for him as he's likely been labeled for life. I suspect he has a winnable claim against the New York Post. This is part of a terrible trend in the news business where reporters are trying to scoop each other and not doing a proper job of fetting their sources.

That is really over the top to plaster his face everywhere when he is not even a suspect. This kind of thing shows how untrustworthy much of the media is.
