General to receive promotion to post at Pearl Harbor-Hickam

Brig. Gen. Paul H. McGillicuddy, commander of the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing at Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, has been selected to receive his second star and will be promoted to a senior position at Pacific Air Forces at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

McGillicuddy was commissioned in 1984 after graduating from the U.S. Air Force Academy.

He has served as an instructor and evaluator pilot, flight commander and inspector general. He has commanded a fighter squadron, an air base wing and a reconnaissance wing. His staff duties include tours at Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Headquarters U.S. Air Force and with the Operations Directorate on the Joint Staff. Prior to his current assignment, McGillicuddy was the 9th Reconnaissance Wing Commander at Beale Air Force Base, Calif.

West point graduates get promoted faster than others because the are favored for assignments at important posts throughout the world. Of course, you need a mentor, who also is a West Point graduate.

I'm not sure what being a West Point graduate has to do with this promotion. General McGillicuddy was a graduate of the U. S. Air Force Academy. Since he is Air Force, there's probably not much chance he graduated from the U. S. Army's West Point.
