Conservative think tank official resigns amid eugenics controversy

WASHINGTON » A co-author of a disputed Heritage Foundation report on a new immigration bill has resigned amid controversy over claims he made about immigrants having low IQs.

A spokesman for the conservative think tank confirmed Jason Richwine's resignation Friday without offering details.

Richwine was one of two authors of a report released Monday that said immigration legislation pending in the Senate would cost $6.3 trillion over 50 years as immigrants consumed federal benefits without making up for it in taxes. The report quickly came under attack as critics from the left and right said it didn't account for economic benefits from immigration.

Attention turned to Richwine when his 2009 Ph.D. dissertation from Harvard University came to light in which he asserted that: "The average IQ of immigrants in the United States is substantially lower than that of the white native population, and the difference is likely to persist over several generations." He argued that the result is low socioeconomic assimilation and other problems and argued that allowing in immigrants with high IQs would help solve the problems.

Richwine's comments got attention from immigrant activist groups, on left-leaning blogs and elsewhere, and helped muddy Heritage's attempt to refocus the immigration debate on what it says are unsustainable costs from the new legislation.

"Jason Richwine let us know he's decided to resign from his position. He's no longer employed by Heritage," Mike Gonzalez, Heritage vice president of communications, said in a statement Friday. "It is our long-standing policy not to discuss internal personnel matters."

all-lies...you know this how? Fact has never been a feature of any of your posts so one should not be surprised here. Fact is that the report was based on trends based on current immigration both legal and illegal from Central America. Perhaps the facts were not Politically Correct but that's the reason why there will be no steps taken to alleviate any of the problems regarding immigration other than pandering by the same elements that have a vested interest in the perpetuation of those problems.

Heritage Foundation is a great organization. What Jason Richwine said is simply the non-PC truth. Specifically, he's factually correct that "the average IQ of immigrants in the United States is substantially lower than that of the white native population", resulting in socioeconomic assimilation and other problems. Look around you, open your eyes. Are the new Micronesian immigrants as likely to become research scientists or doctors as newly arrived Chinese immigrants? You may not agree that there are innate differences between races in terms of anatomy, physical attributes and, yes, intelligence. But I reasonably differ with that. White people can't jump and don't have rhythm. But racial differences like that are not just a one way street. If you get past the PC of it, there's ample evidence out there that: (1) average black IQ is around 84; (2) average Mexican IQ is just a little higher; (3) average caucasian IQ is around 102-103; (4) East Asian IQ (read Chinese) is a smidge higher than the white folks, with any difference disappearing the further North you go in Europe and the further you get away from China. Social science testing confirms that blacks have great social skills, Asians suffer in that department, haoles somewhere in the middle. And no, I don't believe it has to do with "cultural bias" in the testing. Few whites in the NBA, few black or Mexican STEM professionals. There's a reason for that. PC won't let us say that openly without fear of "racist" being screamed, but I entirely agree with what Richwine said which cost him his job. Not "hateful", just realistic ... and unblinkered by PC. Are there exceptions to this rule, and are there distributions amongst races? Sure. Am I surprised when I meet a black person I believe to be more intelligent than most white people? No. But on average ... the latest wave of immigration is flooding the country with many people of lower cognitive capabilities.

Thank goodness, when I needed my brain surgery at Queens hospital, almost eleven years ago. A black man did that surgery! I chose him because I thought he was the best qualified for what would be a life altering moment for me. I was able to acquire three degrees after, am now attempting the start of my masters in soc/psych this fall. Whew! Good thing I am a social scientist. know better than this opala! Educated at UH! I <3 UH and Queens!

"social scientist" huh? You know the difference between statistical vs anecdotal evidence? You are a "scientist" aren't you? Just out of curiosity you don't recall when your surgery occurred and what the doctor's name was do you?
