Sears is closing its store at Kukui Grove on Kauai in July — displacing 40 employees — and will begin a liquidation sale May 30, the Garden Island paper reported.

Sears made the announcement to its employees Wednesday.

The department store was one of the first tenants to move into Kukui Grove Center in 1982. It was located near the Lihue Civic Center before the move.

In March, Sears announced that it would layoff 327 when it closes its Ala Moana center store next month.

Much like any other appliance you buy today (HDTV, phone, computer, etc.), you throw away and buy new. Wasteful world.

I guess all Kauian's could check with the local utilities companys for extended warranty contarcts. That's what I have here in Minneapolis for all of my appliances, fridge, gas stove, ac, furnace and washer/dryer. The rates are very resonable. Aloha from Minnesota
