Ewa Beach man charged after neighborhood standoff

By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 08:23 a.m. HST, May 20, 2013

A 55-year-old Ewa Beach man has been charged with terroristic threatening after an eight-hour standoff with police Thursday.

Mark Char was charged with failure to have a place to keep a pistol or revolver and second-degree terroristic threatening. He posted $25,000 bail over the weekend.

The incident began after 8 p.m. Wednesday when an officer went to a Halolani Street address to investigate a parking complaint. While interviewing Char, the officer noticed that the man was wearing a shoulder holster showing the butt of a firearm, police said.

Police said that Char resisted when the officer tried to arrest him Thursday night. At that point, the man’s 55-year-old wife intervened, and the suspect fled into his home. He refused to come out until 5:15 a.m. Thursday, when he surrendered to police. Homes in the area were evacuated during the standoff.

This neighborhood cancer is a shining example of why guns in the hands of the public are trouble. Sure, most owners are law abiding, but the live lost and maimed by blockheads like this tarnish them all, sorry. Char is obviously menatlly unstable and a braver and stupider individual because he has this metal p*nis extension he can carry around in a holster. Its just a matter of time before someone gets killed, just a matter of time.

This guy would be a cause celebre for the right wing if he had white skin. "Homeowner arrested by fascist state police for exercising his right to bear arms." Sorry Mark, you struck out on the genetic lottery. Your ordained role is as "dangerous villain." But you are right about the extension - I always wonder what these swaggering gun owners who own dozens of guns are trying to make up for.

I'm with you guys man, everybody should be armed. Where does it say in the constitution you shall have the right to bear arms except if you are a felon?

You don't go outside to talk to the police packing your gun. Just common sense.

This man is a public menace...ask any of his neighbors. Google his name and you'll see the stuff out there about him...attempted murder reduced to negligent injury.

This guy is NUTZ and EOE has nothing to do with the right to bare arms. Look at his youtube videos he is a vigilanty. He himself has an issue with his neighbors parking yet he drives around in his car with filming people, posting their names and license plates. He tail gates them , then post that they are trying to make trouble by putting on the brakes and post their car and plate numbers. Check you might be on one of his videos Then he cyber bullies police officers steals photos off their facebook pages of their CHILDREN YES their CHILDREN and makes youtube videos of this. and EOE you want to defend a man who will do this to your children and wife?

You know this guy well...all you say is true. He has issues with people on bicycles and tries to run them over....hence his conviction.

You are correct about this guy hating everyone...he is extremely mentally ill..probably in the near future he WILL go postal and take out some of his neighbors and innocent bystanders and some police officers before he gets blown away for good..too bad something can't be done about him before that happens!

This guy is nuts, ask his nieghbors. He has called the cops at one time or another on all of them. Hides on his property and then calls the cops then he comes out and bashes the cops too for a preceived lack of doing their duty. Best you tube video is when he acts up to someone on the road who turns out to be an off duty cop. Classic.

I don't know if its the economy or there's just too many people here now but there's more and more of "these kind" of people now in the islands. So scary now on the streets , in the neighborhoods and at the malls. There's a lot of irritated people out there now who act like they have nothing to lose and will do react to just about anything.
