Surveillance video helps police catch two suspected thieves

A surveillance tape caught two men trying to break into two Ala Moana area businesses last weekend.

Police said the burglaries occurred on Saturday and Sunday.

The two men, ages 53 and 41, were arrested Monday night on suspicion of second-degree burglary.

Now, after all the work and money spent in the judicial system to catch these crooks and bring them to justice, will they lock them up for a long time or let them out after only a short time in jail? It seems like we take property crimes lightly as these same crooks will probably be out in no time doing the same thing all over again. We need to give them meaningful sentences. Not a short sentence. I would not be surprised if all they are given is probation. I am sure that these crooks have stolen and not being caught many times. In a typical case, a crook will have stolen thousands of dollars before he or she is caught.
