The Medical Examiner’s office has identified the 84-year-old Lahaina man, who died Saturday as the results of burns he received earlier in the week in a Kaanapali condominium fire, as Jurgen Vahrenkamp.

Vahrenkamp was taken in critical condition to a Maui hospital with burns to his body on Wednesday and transferred to a Honolulu hospital the next day. He died Saturday.

Maui fire officials believe the cause of the fire is accidental. Fire damages were estimated at $180,000 to the the two-bedroom unit with an estimated $20,000 in damages to its contents.
