Hawaii County firefighters this morning continue to combat a two-acre brush fire that was discovered in remote Waimanu Valley Sunday morning.

Twenty-five county firefighters and forestry personnel responded to the brush fire after a plume of white smoke was seen from the Waipio Valley lookout just before 9 a.m. An aerial survey of the area by the fire department’s helicopter showed that about two acres were burning.

Helicopter water drops and other attempts were halted at dusk Sunday evening.
