Police have opened an attempted murder case following a shooting late Thursday night near a Waipahu gas station.

At least three shots were fired, grazing a 48-year-old man, hitting a vehicle and a window of a home.

The incident began around 9:30 p.m. when an argument erupted between two groups of men, police said.

One car contained two men, ages 48 and 19.

The suspects in the second car allegedly chased the car with the two men, which crashed during the chase.

During the confrontation, police said three shots were fired by one of the male suspects.

One of the shots slightly injured the man, 48, who had fled in a car with the 19-year-old. A second round struck a car driven by a 46-year-old man. The third round went through the window of a nearby home of a 51-year-old woman.

Besides second-degree attempted murder, police have classified the case as unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, reckless endangering and motor vehicle collision.

Kris Tanahara, spokeswoman for Aloha Petroleum which owns some of the Shell gas stations in the state, said no one was injured at the gas station at 94-380 Pupupani St.

She said a pole at the Waipahu facility was damaged during the altercation.
