By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 06:37 a.m. HST, Jun 30, 2013

Police arrested two men for allegedly trying to kill a 53-year-old man during a stabbing incident in Waikiki overnight.

Police said the two suspects,  ages 18 and 22, got into a fight with the victim and one of them allegedly stabbed the older man with a dangerous instrument at 11:55 p.m. Friday.

Paramedics took the 53-year-old to the hospital in serious condition with multiple stab wounds, Emergency Medical Services reported.

Paramedics reported the stabbing took place on Kalakaua Avenue near Kapiolani Park.

A witness followed the two suspects on foot, police said.

Officers stopped the two men a short distance away and arrested them at 12:22 a.m. on Monsarrat Avenue on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder.

The 18-year-old is a Waikiki resident, while the 22-year-old is from Aiea. Both have the same last name.

Police would not say which suspect is alleged to have stabbed the victim.

Agreed. I like in Waikiki and try to stay home after dark or walk with a group. Too many people that Paula Deen could identify.

The "only" reason those to are in custody is due to the efforts of an upstanding citizen that didn't mind his own business. Otherwise they would still be out there. Kudos to the person in question!
