LAST UPDATED: 07:55 a.m. HST, Jul 18, 2013

Police are trying to determine if a 33-year-old man was drunk when he was run over early this morning in Pearl City while lying in the street.

The Medical Examiner’s office identified the pedestrian as Andrew Mercado, of Pearl City. Results from an autopsy conducted Wednesday to determine the official cause of death are pending.

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition at 12:47 a.m. by paramedics. He died at the hospital.

Police said the pedestrian was run over while lying on Auhuhu Street near Aumakua Street.

The driver of the vehicle, who also lives in Pearl City, was not injured. Speed and alcohol were not factors on the part of the driver.

This was Oahu’s 37th traffic death, compared to 32 at the same time last year.

We need to allow the homeless to lay at the bus stop so they will stay off the roads.

where does it say he was homeless. Could be he was just drunk or just wanted to die.

So the driver didn't see "something" on the road? Hmmm. Wonder why.

Could be the road lacked good lighting. Could be the man was wearing dark clothing. According to reports, the driver was not speeding or under the influence but the deceased could have been drunk.

Where does it say victim was wearing dark clothing? Regardless, headlights would have seen 'something' so maybe the driver was speeding?

I can top all of you. The guy was drinking, got the idea to steal copper. While taking the copper, the lights went out and he got shocked. Stumbled into the road with dark burn marks all over his shirt, passed out, got hit. Driver said, couldn't see him cause his shirt was dark and no more street lights... yeah das it!

The spot he was hit wasn't to far from the intersection so after making the turn he's right there and if you're not looking for someone lying in the road and yes the lighting it's understandable.
