Obama administration overrules Apple import ban

By Associated Press

LAST UPDATED: 10:41 a.m. HST, Aug 03, 2013

President Obama's trade representative has vetoed a ban on imports of some Apple iPads and older iPhones, reversing a ruling in favor of rival Samsung Electronics.

U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman today overruled a June decision by the U.S. International Trade Commission. The commission banned imports of the iPhone 4 and some variants of the iPad 2 when it ruled that the Chinese-made Apple devices violate a patent held by Samsung.

But Froman says in a letter to the commission that he has concerns about patent holders getting too much leverage over competitors that use their technology under licenses.

Samsung and Apple are in a global legal battle over smartphones. Apple argues Samsung's Android phones copy vital iPhone features. Samsung is fighting back with its own complaints.

At less then half the price as these items its always better to buy counterfeit ones instead. Made by the same company, does the same thing, all without the markup pricing to feed the capitalist pigs.

They take a phone that doesn't cost more than $20 to make. Sell it to you for $400 and lock you in for a 2 year contract. The phone starts acting up 8 months in and by 16 months its virtually useless. By then you are begging to waste another $400 to get a replacement. Does that sound fair?

What's fair is that you can open your own company and run it how you wish.

You can solve this by buying the first American-made smartphone in U.S. history — the Motorola Moto X. It’s about time.
