The Marine Corps says Marines and sailors will practice storming a beach on Oahu this week.

Marines and sailors from the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Marine Corps Base Hawaii will conduct amphibious assault vehicle training at Pyramid Rock Beach on Friday.

The Kaneohe Bay training is part of an exercise taking place through the Labor Day weekend.

The 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit is stopping in Hawaii during a six month deployment with the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group.

The group left San Diego last week. They're heading to the western Pacific and U.S. Central Command areas of operation.

Everyone gets all hyped and "up in arms" about a Navy ship running aground off the airport and remaining stuck there for several days awhile back, but nobody chants or waves flags when the military intentionally "storms the beach" at Pyramid Rock??? Go figure.

Running aground a ship isn't normal protocol and causes damage to the reef/marine ecosystem; military exercises including "storming the beach" is part of normal protocol and doesn't necessarily cause damage. SueH, take it easy.

They'll use hover crafts and AAV-7 like they do at Bellows. Just a lot of noise and smoke.
