By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 03:10 a.m. HST, Oct 02, 2013

Deputy sheriffs Tuesday apprehended a 40-year-old female inmate who failed to return from a visit with a group that was to prepare her for eventual release.

Jennifer Garcia was found in the university area around 8:30 a.m. this morning and taken back to the women's prison in Kailua. Garcia went missing on Sept. 27.

Garcia was in a transitional program called "Bridge" with a transitional halfway house within the women's prison

Schwartz said Garcia, convicted of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and second-degree robbery, will be charged with second-degree escape.

No surprise here. Manoa and Makiki has more criminals in hiding than most realize. Spooky.

With less than one year to serve on her existing sentence she walks out! Now she'll add on an additional five years for escape. Sure hope whatever caused her to go awol was worth it! Maybe it was something a female couldn't provide behind bars?

Seems like she wants to stay in prison. That's not as uncommon as many would think. For many people, prison offers structure, safety and stability that they are comfortable with. If so, leaving prison becomes a scary proposition.

You may be right in that if released she has to find job or sponge on the relatives. It's tough giving up 3 squares, recreation period, and all the creature comforts as taking a bath, sleeping on a nice bed, change of bedding. The alterntive most likely is being homeless and sleeping on the streets.
