Gov. Neil Abercrombie left for Washington, D.C. Tuesday to discuss the impact of the partial government shutdown on Hawaii.

The governor, a former congressman, will meet with the state's congressional delegation and some of his former colleagues.

Louise Kim McCoy, Abercrombie's spokeswoman, said the governor had a previously scheduled trip to the East Coast that will now include a stop in the capital. The governor is expected back on Sunday.

Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui is acting governor in the Abercrombie's absence.

Abercrombie will travel on to France for a vacation. The trip to the east coast is to further justify Hawaii taxpayers paying for most of the fare for his vacation. The question is whether his wife will be included in the “official” Hawaii delegation to DC to know if taxpayers also will pay for most of her air fare to France for a vacation.
