The new National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration building on Pearl Harbor's Ford Island is getting a child care center.

Naval Facilities Engineering Command said Wednesday it awarded a San Diego joint venture an $11.3 million contract for the facility's construction.

NOAA is funding the center, which will be able to accommodate up to 122 children.

It will be at NOAA's new Daniel K Inouye Regional Center, where over 600 NOAA employees will eventually be working.

Inouye Regional Center site manager Steve Gallagher says NOAA is working with the Navy to share open spaces at the facility with Defense Department families.

If it's so good for the economy to build more government ammenities with taxpayer money why stop with only a child care center. Let's build the Inouye recreation and fishing pier at Ford Island. Clean the place out so you can actually eat something you catch, then build a huge fishing pier and build a game fish hatchery nearby. Limit the catches so there's some left for others. Those who are risking there life for the country can be rewarded when they get that Federal Pension after 20 years of sacrifice to keep us a free country. Who knows, we may have been invaded by Iran by now.

Inouye represented all that is wrong with Washington. Pork Barrel spending. Ironic that it's to build a child care facility. These are the future taxpayers who will inhirit this debt.
