A northwest swell has prompted officials at the National Weather Service to issue a high surf advisory for north and west shores of Oahu, Kauai, Molokai and Niihau and the north shore of Maui.
Surf up to 12 to 16 feet is expected on north and west shores. The advisory is scheduled through 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Officials warn beachgoers that strong breaking waves and currents can make swimming in affected areas dangerous.
