Police search for suspect in sex assault on Big Isle

Hawaii County police are searching for a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman in a Waiakea restroom on Tuesday.

Police said the woman was able to fight off her attacker, who fled in a late model red Ford Expedition painted tan or gold on its lower section.

The suspect is described as a man in his early 20s, around 6 feet tall, weighing 160 to 180 pounds.

Police ask that anyone with information regarding the case to call the department's non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311 or to contact Detective Jesse Kerr at (808) 961-8883 or jkerr@co.hawaii.hi.us.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300 in Hilo or (808) 329-8181 in Kona.
