By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 08:02 a.m. HST, Dec 10, 2013

The Kapaa public swimming pool will reopen today after a $300,000 renovation.

The majority of the work was on the men's and women's locker rooms, the county said in a news release. The old locker rooms built in the 1940s were demolished and replaced with two new buildings that have two restrooms, a changing room, three outdoor showers and a drinking fountain. The pool equipment room, located between the two locker rooms, was repaired and repainted.

A galvanized steel fence was replaced with an aluminum fence. The fence work was performed by Wellington Fence Co.

The general contractor for the project was George Kawamura, a Kalaheo-based company.

During the construction, county recreation department staff drained and power-washed the pool and and replaced missing tiles.

Trying to place the location, and the background suggest Nou Nou mountain, and the pool in the back of the old courthouse and jail. Was born where the original Kojima Store was located, formerly known as the Kapaa Trading Store, Ltd. Used to spend the entire summer on beach near the pool in the early 30's.
