Hawaii County police have charged a 35-year-old Hilo man for allegedly trying to run down his girlfriend during a fight this week.

Justin Lee on Wednesday was charged with second-degree reckless endangering and two counts of second-degree assault. His bail was set at $22,000. He was also charged with bail jumping, contempt of court and violating terms of release.

The 41-year-old victim reported that between 9 and 9:30 p.m. Monday, she and Lee got into an argument. Police said that as the argument escalated, the boyfriend allegedly ran over her with a car and then fled on foot.

His girlfriend, also from Hilo, is in a Honolulu hospital in serious condition. The victim was first treated at Hilo Medical Center then later flown to Honolulu for treatment.
