A power outage forced classes to be canceled at Waikiki Elementary School today.

About 1,700 customers were without power for about an hour beginning at 6 a.m., a Hawaii Electric spokesman said.

Electrical power was restored just after 7 a.m., but classes had already been called off for the more than 400 students at the Waikiki school.

Did school administrators contact HECO and get an estimated uptime? If no, terrible. If yes and HECO said the solution is simple but it takes longer than expected, what happens then? Heck, what if school started and then the power outage? Do teachers get the day off too?
