All you cyclists out there, be careful. I ride my bike several times a week. I see cyclist not paying attention. Never assume a driver sees you.

That is why when Caldwell and others cheerlead about how Oahu residents should use a bicycle as a means of transportation to get around just say NO. A driver killed an HPD officer directling traffic and just got ONE year in prison so no matter who is at fault when a bicyclist is killed/maimed or seriously injured on Oahu's roads it is basically a pass in the court system. That is NOT worth the risk; either take the Bus, walk or use a car to get around

I find it interesting that you suggest people walk but not ride bikes when more pedestrians are killed on our roads every year.

Thats cause more people walk than ride a bicycle in Hawaii. Also when you factor in age, most pedestrians that get killed are much older and unable to ride a bicycle in the street, even if they wanted to. Taking all this into account for most people in the age of either commuting to go to school or work, riding a bicycle on the streets of Oahu have a much greater chance of getting hurt/killed than walking, driving or talking the bus. Been there and done that using a bicycle as a means of regular transportation and would never do that on Oahu no matter what as most Oahu roads cannot safely physically accommodate bicycles. Besides most drivers hate bicyclists on Oahu roads as bicyclists have no choice but to hinder vehicular traffic.

Inverse, refer back to aomohoa's comment. If you are walking, riding bike, motorcycle, driving car.......bottom line is we ALL have to be more attentive. You are responsible for your own life, and if you as a pedestrian, bike rider....need to pay the utmost attention. After all like Ip Man says, "its on you".
