Woman rescued, man missing after flash flood

Hawaii County firefighters rescued a 45-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man is missing after a flash flood Sunday night in Papaikou.

Firefighters responded to a 9:27 p.m.call to Kawainui Stream at Old Mamalahoa Highway.

An ambulance took a 45-year-old woman to Hilo for treatment. But firefighters say a 43-year-old man is missing and was last seen in the stream.

A fire department unit remained on scene Sunday night and a search was scheduled to resume using the fire department helicopter this morning.
