By Star-Advertiser Staff

POSTED:

The Hawaii Air National Guard next week will dedicate the first two of the 20 F-22 Raptor fighter jets it is scheduled to receive.

The latest-generation fighters will replace the F-15 Eagles that the 199th Fighter Squadron has flown since 1987.

"The arrival of the F-22s begins a new chapter in the already close relationship between the Guard and the active duty in Hawaii," said Maj. Gen. Robert G.F. Lee, state adjutant general and commander of the Hawaii National Guard.

The Raptors will be flow by pilots from the Air Guard's 199th Fighter Squadron, 154th Wing, and active duty Air Force pilots from the 19th Fighter Squadron, 15th Wing.

The Air Guard and Air Force will hold a dedication ceremony July 9 at 9 a.m. at Joint base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.
