DOE to make recommendation on Haleiwa school closure

A public hearing will be held tonight on a study examining whether to close Haleiwa Elementary School and consolidate it with Waialua Elementary and Waialua High and Intermediate Schools.

Following the public hearing, the Department of Education will make a recommendation to the Board of Education on the proposed schools consolidation.

The meeting is set for 6 p.m. at the Haleiwa Elementary School.

Testimonies, written or e-mailed, must be received no later than three business days after the public hearing.

The consolidation study report is available at under "School Consolidation Task Forces." Free copies also are available between 7:45 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding state holidays, at Haleiwa and Waialua Elementary Schools and Waialua High and Intermediate School offices and the DOE Central Oahu District Office.
