Viloria wins split decision

Former Waipahu resident Brian Viloria defeated Mexico's Omar Soto by split decision on Saturday night at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City, Philippines.

Two judges scored the bout 97-93 in favor of Viloria while the third gave the fight by the same score to Soto.

Viloria improves to 27-3 with a win in his first fight at 112 pounds in 19 months. He hadn't fought since losing the IBF light flyweight title to Carlos Tamara in January.

Soto fell to 19-7-2 with the loss.
