Police have re-opened a two-mile stretch of Kamehameha Highway between Ka Uka Boulevard in Waipio and Lanikuhana Avenue in Mililani where firefighters were battling a blaze in Kipapa Gulch.

Firefighters appeared to have the fire under control by 1:54 p.m., said Honolulu fire Capt. Gary Lum.

Police closed the highway in both directions about 1:45 p.m.

The area has been subject to a number of brush fires of suspicious origin in recent weeks.
