Honolulu firefighters responded to far fewer fire calls Monday, the first fireworks-related holiday when a new Oahu ban on most types of fireworks was in effect.

As of 9 p.m., the Honolulu Fire Department responded to seven fire calls Monday, three of which are probably fireworks-related, HFD said in a news release.

For the same period last year, the fire department responded to 26 fire calls, eight of which were deemed probably fireworks-related.

Since Jan. 2, all consumer fireworks except for firecrackers have been banned on Oahu. The city sold just 93 permits to buy firecrackers this Fourth of July holiday.
