Fire destroyed the home of a family of four today and damaged a neighboring home in Ewa-by-Gentry.
The blaze started at 10:57 a.m. at 91-195 Wailohia Place in the residential area known as Soda Creek. Three people in the house got out safely, said Honolulu Fire Capt. Terry Seelig. The fourth was not home.
About 35 firefighters brought the two-alarm fire under control in about an hour but could not save the two-story home, Seelig said.
The only injury occurred when the next-door neighbor who was trying to spray water on the fire had to break a window to get back into his home and escape from the back yard.
The American Red Cross is helping with clothes. The family plans to stay with relatives.
