Fund established to help fallen and injured police officers

The Hawaii Law Enforcement Federal Credit Union has set up a fund to assist the families of the two police officers imvolved in Tuesday’s traffic death. 

Police Officer Eric Fontes, a 6-year veteran, was killed during a routine traffic stop Tuesday night on Farrington Highway near Ko Olina. Officer Herman Scanlan, 14-year veteran, was injured in the same accident. He is recovering at the Queen’s Medical Center in stable condition.
Fontes is from Molokai. He was married with two stepchildren. He was named most inspirational in his February 2005 Honolulu Police Department recruit class.
Donations may be dropped off or mailed to any one of the credit union branches. For more information please call 973-4311.
Checks should be made out to the Hawaii law Enforcement Credit Union with the notation "Officers Relief Fund" in the memo line.
Branch offices are in Kapolei at 889 Kamokila Boulevard and the Pearl City police station at 1100 Waimano Home Road. Donations are not being accepted at the main police station branch.
