By Star-Advertiser staff

Gov. Neil Abercrombie will be taking personal leave starting today through Friday, according to a release from the governor's office.

Abercrombie will be visiting family in New York. Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz will be acting governor until he leaves on Friday to Taiwan and Korea. Schatz will meet with officials there, including the Taiwanese president, to promote tourism in Hawaii and sign a Memorandum of Understanding on energy cooperation.

Schatz departs on Friday morning. State Attorney General David Louie will serve as acting governor until Abercrombie returns at 5:30 p.m. that day.

Who's taking care of his mutt that he used $12,000 of taxpayers money to build a dog run? His dog is more important than the taxpayers.

I guess S-A missed that story. It seems spending $12000 in taxpayer money for a dog run is OK but not OK if you are a human. Recall that the gov fired a high official at DHHL when spent office money for a treadmill (for humans). Now we find our gov spent even more taxpayer money on his dog. I guess S-A has its priorities.

However, who will be arguing the Federal Re-apportionment case in favor of the State of Hawaii on Friday if the AG is on the fifth floor? Perhaps an extension is in order?

Chain of command is getting shorter and shorter. Kind of cool how we see this process in action. Good for the kids to study in school if they can find teachers that can teach about it. If not, parents? Problem is most parents have forgotten their Civics lessons.

This proves the top two elected officials in the state are irrelevant and that the state can get along just fine without them.

Just watch, nobody will miss the Governor and Lt. Governor. This state will run just as it always has (maybe even better). Questions will arise, do we really need a Hobbit in the Hawaii White House.
