An aircrew piloting an HC-130 Hercules airplane from Barbers Point joined the search for a man overboard approximately 1,600 miles south of Hawaii.
Watchstanders in Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu received a request for assistance in locating an overboard Filipino crewmember off the 172-foot fishing vessel Hung-Yi at 9:44 p.m. Thursday. The request originally came from RCC Taipei and was sent to both RCC New Zealand and JRCC Honolulu.
The aircrew was launched at 2:24 a.m. Friday and arrived on scene at approximately 8:15 a.m. They scanned the search area for two hours approximately 863 miles northeast of American Samoa. The aircrew landed in American Samoa to refuel and for crew rest.
